defying expectations

what’s the artists’ job? to defy expectations i think. hacky art is predictable, the good shit feels like “this isn’t quite what i expected.” it’s always good to remember when working on your shit that you gotta subvert the expectations rather than meeting them. don’t subvert so far that it doesn’t make sense though. the dance is ongoing. where’s the line? thinking about it and jumping a bit on either side is the only way to find out.
