the cambie with tegan and sara
on thursday i premiered my upcoming song with tegan and sara at the cambie in vancouver. this was all very last minute. we had originally planned to shoot a music video somewhere else, but the location fell through. we had to scramble a bit, but the cambie was kind enough to let us roll up and do our thing.
we didn’t really promote it other than a story on instagram a few hours prior, so i wasn’t really sure what to expect. but the place was packed and it was hype. there’s a randomness to the cambie that is not lost on me. i would say that’s somewhat intentional. i am punk rock at heart and something about setting up in a dive bar will always appeal to me. i’m honestly half-shocked that tegan and sara agreed to this idea, but to their credit, they were so down. i love collaborating with artists that are open to trying things, and shaking up the status quo. life’s short, let’s just make shit and have fun.
i sort of feel this internal push to fight back against marketing that is solely “online.” why not try to create an experience? something spontaneous. something DIY. something fun. something unpredictable. then.. even if the promotion didn’t work as well you wanted, at least we all come away with a night or a moment that we can look back on and say, “fuck… at least that was fun.”
our song ‘right on time’ is out this friday.
